JONNY GOMES (OF, Cincinnati Reds, MLB – Casa Grande HS):

Gomes had a huge home run (#19) on Friday on a two strike breaking ball.  That’s home run number 14 off RHP for those keeping track.  The Reds went on to win and met their Elimination Number over the weekend.  No playoffs, but still a few weeks to work on some things for next year.  Like defense.  Gomes added another defensive play to his highlights reel.   Click that link… 5 defensive plays, 4 home runs, 2 RBI singles and an RBI double.  His “D” ain’t always pretty, but he makes some plays that higher rated outfielders wouldn’t even attempt cuz he hustles.  Gonna be hard for the Reds… or some other team… to see what he could do with 500 ABs next season.

TOMMY EVERIDGE (1B, AAA Sacramento Rivercats, Oakland Athletics Organization – Sonoma HS):

The Rivercats took the best of five opening round from the Tacoma Rainiers with a solid victory Saturday.  Sonoma’s one-two punch of Wallace and Everidge provided 5 of Sacramento’s 13 runs.  The Cats go to Memphis for the first two games of the Pacific Coast League Championship Series. Yep, you read that right… the PACIFIC Coast League includes Memphis, Tennessee.   They bring it home to wrap it up on Friday.

BRANDON MORROW (P, Seattle Mariners, MLB – Rancho Cotate HS):

Morrow tossed a win in his return to the Mariners on Saturday after Friday’s scheduled start was rained out.  Saturday’s game was played in a drizzle that became a downpour by the 9th, but Brandon kept his footing on the kitty litter Diamond Dry covered mound for 5 innings.  Here’s the recap.
