Touch ‘Em All – Wednesday, September 23, 2009

by PTownFan

Just under a dozen games left to play in the regular season for Jonny Gomes and Brandon Morrow.   Tommy Everidge’s Triple A season ended with a thud as the Memphis Redbirds swept the Rivercats, ending their Three-Peat attempt for the AAA crown.  Dirty birds.  How ’bout we move that Rivercat franchise to PTown, give ‘em some gnarly poultry name and show the world whose birds are best?

JONNY GOMES (OF, Cincinnati Reds, MLB – Casa Grande HS):

Gomes had a pair of hits and an RBI in last night’s 10-4 win over Pittsburg.  He’s batting .268 and is looking for home run #21 to tie his previous career high.  With a dozen games to go, he shouldn’t have any trouble notching a new personal best.  5 of the final games are against the Bucs.

BRANDON MORROW (P, Seattle Mariners, MLB – Rancho Cotate HS):

Morrow is on the hill tonight for the Mariners in Tampa Bay.  He’s looking to get deep in the game after struggling with control in his two recent starts.  (PTown Junior will be happy to find that silver lining to a day otherwise derailed by the flu.  Hopefully just the standard garden variety flu and not the dreaded H1N1.  Monitoring symptoms closely thanks to the school website.)

COMIN’ UP:

Casa Grande Soccer Fans: Your turn to support the team by eating out at Beyond The Glory is tomorrow night, September 24th.  A portion of your check will be donated to the Casa Grande Soccer Program.  Another big tip of the cap to The Glory for all their support of youth sports in PTown.

St. Vincent High Alums… still hopin’ you’ve got some pics to share of days gone by on Kiely Field:  Click here to see what we need. And the football team hopes you’ll join them at Beyond The Glory Monday night, 9/29, for their dine and donate evening at Petaluma’s best sports bar and grill.
